87°, 65% humidity. (Heat Index of 95°) Ayuh. It's hot.

Until now, the breeze and not getting direct afternoon sunlight has been keeping it bearable, but by the fact that I'm now sweating just sitting still, I'd say the crossover point has been reached, and it is time to turn on the AC.

I'm half tempted to turn on the AC, nap for an hour, shower, and go over to the mall and wander around in their AC for a while. If I do that, I'll have to splurge on an IC Spice at Panera, in compensation for the shopping: I need to find a new swimsuit before July 5th.

Since I doubt I'll suddenly drop to a size 8 or 10 by then, I may as well just bite the bullet and start looking. I've been going through catalogs and websites, but how something looks on a size 6 model is not an accurate depiction of how it will look on me.

I was noticing that the catalogs selling to larger women really need to get a clue- using a size 10 model to "display" a suit that you're trying to sell to a woman wearing a size 20 just is NOT accurate. Those are especially scary if the suit makes the size 10 look dumpy.


Although, the mall with Panera only has Kohl's and Marshall's... If I go to Ridgedale instead I'd get to choose from Dayton's, Sears, Penny's, and assorted little shops, plus I could get an iced coffee cheaper at Marketplace. Decisions, decisions... Except I need to get the car to Sears for a rotate and balance, and it's silly to go there twice.

dude, in case you hadn't noticed, size 10 is the beginning of "women's" (aka "plus") sizes these days. the range is 10-22, according to the powers that be. uh, hello? most normal women fall into this range.

i just got a swimsuit from the la redoute catalog (part of the lerner/lane bryant empire) and it kicks ass. it's a one-piece with legs like shorts. i'm a little concerned that the thighs sorta bulge out from the elastic a little, but it's only a little so i can deal. the rest of the world will have to deal too.

I've been noticing that 12 seems to be the cutoff these days. Rather stupid, since the average woman in the US is a 14!

Went out this evening and tried on I don't know how many suits. All but one completely and utterly depressing. The odd one out was a "classic styles" thing, looks like a tank top and full shorts, sort of like you'd wear for running. Wasn't wonderful but it was the lesser of evils. Unfortunately, even at half price it was over $40. I don't think so.

Also checked out Target, and wandered over to the workout wear. You know, it would make more sense to just get a matching sport bra/tank and running shorts. Looks about the same, fits better, deals with the problem spots, and costs less. I'd get more use from them, too.

I think that's probably what's going to happen.

I always wondered why women couldn't just go buy a nice colorful brassiere and sturdy colorful undies and call it a bathing suit. For the number of times I go swimming, I'd do that...but for some reason it's really not quite socially acceptable.

I hate swimsuit shopping. I usually just save up all my energy and then try on as many swimsuits and I can grab (that I like) in an hour or two and then I go home. I'm not sure if swimsuits or jeans are worse, but I think it probably falls to swimsuits because it's more skin showing and it requires taking off more clothes to try them on. ;)

Couple depressing hours at it tonight. I did find a couple pair of dressier shorts, which I needed.

Swimwear is definitely worse than jeans in my book. I do try on about 12-15 pair of jeans for each one I find that fits, so yeah, that's definitely bad...

But at least jeans hide a lot. Swimwear demolishes any illusions you may have.
