Almost forgot that it's Free Will Astrology Day.

LIBRA (Sept 23-Oct 22)
Week of January 17, 2002

Debate continues to rage at the World Conference of Soul-Making in San Rafael, CA. The camp known as the Ruminators claim that most humans are born without souls and can create them only through an arduous and disciplined rebellion against all belief systems. The Resonators agree that soul isn't innate, but insist that soul-making is not as difficult as the Ruminators claim; they believe a habit of gathering good stories will do the trick. The Revelators say every person is born with a soul in seed form, and need only discover the "blueprint" of that seed in order to attract the exact experiences needed to nurture its potential. Which view do you favor, Libra? You're in a phase when soul-making is your specialty.

I sure get some weird ones... Think I'll check out Aquarius, my rising sign...

AQUARIUS

I won't lie to you about your mission in the first half of 2002, Aquarius. Ignorance and inertia will surround you. Cynicism will be regarded as a supreme sign of intelligence and sentimentality as the quintessence of deep feeling. Beautiful truths will be suspect and ugly truths will be readily believed. You'll have to be a cheerful rebel, maintaining your equanimity as you resist the temptation to swallow delusions that have been carefully crafted by Very Self-Important People who act as if they know what they're doing. You'll have to buck every system and go against every grain -- even as you work hard to be in a jolly good mood. Here's my prediction: You will succeed about 65 to 75 percent of the time.

Now that is sounding familiar.

I'm jealous. My rising sign is the same as my sun (tho' awfully close to the sign before...) so I have to resort to blatant stealing.

I do check Leo and Taurus (Moon/Mars and Venus) and, of course, Sagittarius, since it's my North Node.

He WANTS us to read all of them!

I don't know a great deal about astrology (yet); what's the particular importance of the North Node?

If it helps in the explanation, I'm a Libra sun/moon, Aquarius rising, Pisces north node and Saggitarius midheaven.

I do admit to usually reading all of his horoscopes- they're much more interesting than most, even if I can't make much sense out of some of them!

uhoh, you asked alison about nodes. you better go grab your notebook; she was obsessed with nodes for like an entire year.

Hey! Don't you go slagging my node obsession!

GEMINI SOUTH NODE: Does she hate me? Was I totally boring when I talked about all that node stuff? Was she just being polite? Why can't she say these things to my face? Maybe I'll just stop talking to her for a while.

SAGITTARIUS NORTH NODE: Good point, Roth. If anyone knows obsession, it's a Scorpio...:p

dearest schpahky, i would never slag you or any obsession of yours. i was merely trying to prepare asheris for the veritable onslaught of knowledge she would doubtless receive from you, for you are the fount of all astrological wisdom. i bow before your prowess; i am not worthy.

Nodes

OK, here's the brief course on nodes, with a heavy nod to Debbie Kempton-Smith:

The North node is stuff that you must reach for, but is really good for you ("like blueberry yogurt," says Ms. Kempton-Smith.) It doesn't necessarily come easily, but part of you craves it. When you go for North Node stuff, doors open, you feel vital and alive and have a much better chance of getting what you want.

South node is opposite the North node, with all that entails. It's characteristics you already have which are innately so well-developed that, while comfortable, they won't propel you much further in life. Consider them overdeveloped qualities. If you let them go, much like a garbage bag, they start to get stinky.

SO: [livejournal.com profile] asheris has Pisces North node. That means you have to stretch for Pisces characteristics, which I'm guessing would be a sense of oneness through diffusion, compassion, empathy, tenderness, and emotional awareness (also creativity). When you're under total stress or feeling lazy or just unaware, you'll lean on your Virgo South node, which involves losing yourself in work, getting in emotionally bonded situations where you need to serve/please someone, and getting too tied to linear reality.

Pisces stuff will get you everywhere. Virgo stuff, less so, although you do probably have an organizational knack and sense of mental, if not physical :) order.

You'll also want to see what houses the nodes are in and check out the signs for those houses too: for instance, if your north node is in the second house, you'll know that Taurus things are good for you and Scorpio things, like [livejournal.com profile] rothko, will suck you under if you're not careful.

A great book to check out of the library is Jan Spiller's Astrology for the Soul which deals with nothing put pure node-age. It's because of her I got obsessed with nodes...it made too much sense.

Now that wasn't so bad, was it, Roth?

Interesting, and as you describe it, not all that terribly complicated.

Hrm... so Pisces in the 1st house would be what? (I think Aries, but I don't have anything handy to verify that.)

The Virgo South Node sounds far too familiar! (Is it the south node simply because it's the "opposite" of Pisces?)

As for Scorpio things, I've been around [livejournal.com profile] rothko most of my life- she hasn't dragged me down yet. ;)

it was in fact most enlightening, as i'd completely forgotten what nodes really were. my astrodienst chart only shows a "true node" (in aquarius). is that another name for the north node? or the south? or neither?

"True node" is the same as "North node." Since the South node is simply the opposite, I think most chart programs assume it's a redundancy. The North node's better for you, anyway.

If Aquarius is your True/North node, then Leo's the South.

Love the squirrel!

Aquarian here. And that horoscope sounds eerily like what my new project at work is going to be. I'm not sure whether it's more amazing that the horoscope seems pretty accurate or that I actually predicted something similar for myself after taking stock of my new coworkers in the last few weeks.

This is one of the reasons why I'm working on aura protection and stuff. Don't wanna get brought down by other people's cynicism. :)

I need to work on beefing up in the aura protection/shielding area. I was diligent about it for a long time, but like a lot of things sort of fell out of that over the past several months.

I don't consider myself an empath or anything, but I do pick up on other people a bit more than (what I presume to be) average. Being in large groups for any amount of time is just exhausting- and that describes the next few days!

This is my first foray into something like this, but the book that I'm reading makes alot of sense. Have you found that it's worked for you in the past?

I know what you mean about getting exhausted with lots of people. I'm pretty good in a social setting, but dealing with lots of people for long times at work is completely draining.

It has worked, yes, and it got tested in some nasty situations. (Living in a duplex, people in the other half with a, er, "turbulent" marriage, and loads of negative and violent energy floating around.)

I generally use a sort of "mesh" shield (sort of like those gold lace Christmas ornaments), with the intent that it keeps out negative and lets in positive. The strength of it depends on how much energy you channel into it- and how much of a beating it's taking.

With practice, you can keep up the mesh continuously, and if things get to be too much slide in a more solid layer.
At first it took a lot of concentration to build one up, but eventually it got to where I could almost "pop" it into place. I've gotten a bit out of practice, though.
