Oct. 1st, 2005 07:30 pmOpen letter to the Kansas School Board (and others)
"I am writing you with much concern after having read of your hearing to decide whether the alternative theory of Intelligent Design should be taught along with the theory of Evolution. I think we can all agree that it is important for students to hear multiple viewpoints so they can choose for themselves the theory that makes the most sense to them. I am concerned, however, that students will only hear one theory of Intelligent Design.
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. It was He who created all that we see and all that we feel. We feel strongly that the overwhelming scientific evidence pointing towards evolutionary processes is nothing but a coincidence, put in place by Him."
(It just gets better after that.)

Date: 2005-10-02 01:10 am (UTC)But no, the entire thing can be summed up by the simple sentance "We exist, therefore someone designed us". That's it. No explanations, no citing of evidence, nothing. While evolution may not be absolutely specific in tracing the development of life (which is why it is currently a theory, because we don't have all the facts yet), it is the most logical, consistent explanation. If someone volunteered a theory that cited the evidence and did a better job going over the evolution of life, then yeah, I'd consider it.
But intelligent design is for people too stupid to think for themselves, too idiotic to know even the most basic scientific facts that not only explain how evolition works also operates their computers and DVD players, and too heinously moronic to look at how things develop rather than just stamp a seal of approval that matches what they would like to believe. Bah. Don't get me started on intelligent design, I can't think of a valid reason to let anyone who supports that kind of legislation to not be thrown into a tiger pit to see if their intelligent designer built in any safety-for-people chips into their creations.
