Taxes are HELL.

I've only had to file the full 1040 once before (last year), and even then it wasn't too horrible.

This year... this year, I'm having to file the full 1040 with a schedule C (business profit & loss), medical deductions, and a lot of other crap. I've been working on this for a couple hours now tonight, and I've only got the basic info (personal, W2's) and part of a Schedule C entered.

This sucks. I'm starting to wish I'd gone to an accountant. Or stuck with it when I first started entering things a few weeks ago- had to restart tonight because my password into my original info on hrblock.com is refusing to work.

I'm starting to think that a trip down to use Mom & Dad's TurboTax may be a good idea... I'll work on this some more tomorrow, and if it doesn't start getting better, I travel.

Screw hrblock.com. Their stuff is a pain to navigate. Can't verify where you're at, or what you might have missed- feh!

I did what I should have done in the first place- checked the e-filing page on the MN Department of Revenue website to see which tax software programs had special or otherwise reduced prices on using their products. (A lovely feature they added about two years ago- they've got an excellent, very useable site!)

Seems TurboTax for the Web has a special program where if your gross adjusted income is under $25k you can use most of their stuff free; I opted for the Premium since I've got business stuff to enter,is a whopping $10, including the state and federal electronic filing.

We LIKE electronic filing and direct deposit. *nods*

Another nice thing about TT is that it shows you a running number in the upper right corner, showing how much you owe or will get back judging by what information you've entered so far. Sometimes this can be useful. Other times, it's just interesting- as I've been entering W2's and 1099's, I've watched my refund go from about $1200 down to $800. I still have a lot of stuff to enter, though. I'm just hoping I don't OWE anything!

So far the most complicated part of taxes with TT has been getting Quicken to put together the customized report I wanted to print, so I can see what I've dealt with and what I haven't!

But that's taken care of, so I think it's time for lunch and a nap!
