Is the draft on it's way back?

Might be.

The Bush administration has the DoD putting out a quiet call for volunteers to serve on draft boards. Article here (from the Toronto Star), and the Article on the DoD's "Defend America" site.


It would be political suicide for Bush to ty to actually reinstate the draft now; these are just preparations to make sure all the elements necessary are in place.

Heaven help us all if he's re-elected.

This could be pretty interesting - I don't think people today would just agree with the idea of the draft as they have in the past.
Massive rioting, anyone? A whole bunch of "hell no"s?

I do hope they reintroduce the draft; preferably before the election. I think it would be delicious to watch all the chickenhawks doing sudden U-turns.

Then again, it's OK for me to say that 'cause I'm pretty safe from being drafted.
