For some reason, our government thinks that plastic garbage bags will protect us from biological weapons, but condoms don't help prevent HIV/AIDS and other STD's.

That's a nice rip of disaster planning they have there. 'Round these parts, we call that a hurricane kit and folks use common sense to plan for it in the event we should be in separate locations.

Idiots. Another friend on LiveJournal is a physicist; he calculated the amount of air needed for one person for one day versus the amount of air in a sealed house. With a standard family of four, if they were lying around not doing anything, they'd all be dead of oxygen deprivation within twelve hours. And that's assuming you COULD seal a house that tightly with plastic and duct tape.
