That's a 6" ruler, btw.

The cuke on the right (here for comparison) is a little bigger than the one I left in the garden early Sunday evening. This one is just shy of an ounce, the one I left was maybe 2/3 that.

The one on the left is that little cuke Tuesday morning, not even 40 hours later. That sucker is now 3" in diameter, and weighs 15 1/2 oz.

In barely a day and a half. Oy!

Reminds me of a (fiction) story in one of the readers (the ones that had names like Kaleidascopes, Prisms, etc.) back in grade school, about a family that homesteaded an acre of land that used to be at the bottom of a big pond. At first they were sad that this was all they could afford, this land nobody wanted because it smelled funny after years and years of dead fish settling to the bottom of the lake and rotting. Once they planted their garden, they discovered that things grew fast because the soil was SO rich. In fact, they could hardly sleep at night for the noise of the plants, as they grew literally overnight into the biggest fruits and veggies anyone had ever seen. Can't remember if there was more to it, or if that's how the story ended.
