Finally got out to see Harry Potter tonight.

Wow!

Definitely one of the absolute best book-to-movie translations on record. The casting was great, and most of the book-to-script changes were handled well. (Though I wanted to see Hermionie deal with the potions puzzle!)

As for the visuals... so much of it was almost exactly what I'd imagined!

I was very impressed.

Yay! Glad you got to see it! I've seen it twice now and I liked it even better the second time. I loved the books, and the all of the stuff that happens before Harry gets to Hogwarts was exactly like I imagined it. The shack on the island, the wand store, all perfect! Plus, who can resist Alan Rickman as Snape! :)

Ah, yes, Rickman as Snape... he does the most wonderful villains! *grin* Along that line, the Radcliffe boy is going to be breaking a lot of hearts in a few years- he's already quite handsome.

I liked how they handled the Norbert subplot, though by leaving out Malfoy Sr. they may have some trouble with the coming plotlines. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. I'm not sure Draco was quite nasty enough! He's got the supercilious smile down pat, but they didn't give him enough opportunities to be his nasty little self.

Pity there wasn't time to have scenes from a few more of their classes. And Peeves, must have a few scenes with Peeves.

Maybe next film...

Did you hear they've got Kenneth Branagh to play Professor Lockhart in the second one? This is gonna be FUN...

Yes, there were a few scenes I would have loved to see. Though I must admit, having read the other three books, it was really hard to remember which scene was in what book.

I heard about Kenneth Branaugh! I'm really looking forward to it. :)
