I wish it were an April Fool...
Apr. 1st, 2004 08:05 pmToday was going fine right up until the data drive on my work computer started making some terrible noises, and Windows started blue-screening me with messages about being unable to write to the D: drive.
On the off chance, I tried the old HD in the freezer trick. (hurray for the minifridge in the office!) No go- it would access just enough information to start a file transfer, then it would crap out.
Yes, it was a long shot, but when the master files for your projects from the last 3 months are in there, it's at least worth a try...
As I was about to give up on that something threw a spark, there was the smell of scorched electronics, and the system went down. Tried the switches, plugged and unplugged things, checked to make sure the power strip hadn't been tripped, all the while knowing that it wasn't likely to be something that simple.
It wasn't.
Wish I could figure out what happened to my spare power supply at home, I'd take it in tomorrow to test and see if that's all that's lost. Instead I'll have to swing over to MicroCenter and get one in the morning. Thankfully they have one on sale.
I really wish someone had just played a dumb gag instead.
