Sep. 19th, 2003 10:01 pmHave you heard about National Opt-Out Day? It's an attempt to get the word out about the military recruitment provision of Shrub's so-called "No Child Left Behind" legislation.
That particular piece of legislation, in addition to it's many other bad provisions, requires school districts to share students’ names, addresses, and telephone numbers with military recruiters. The worst part is that the information hasn't been getting out that parents and their high school aged children have the right to "opt out" of having their private information handed over to military recruiters.
Also check out misleader.org, "a daily chronicle of Bush administration distortion". As you can imagine, this week they haven't even had to try, it's just fallen into their laps. (Well, it does most weeks, with this administration...)
Sept. 14th: Dick Cheney claims on "Meet the Press" that Saddam Hussein was a main supporter of al Qaida, and many al Qaida terrorists were trained in Iraq.
Sept. 16th: Rumsfeld, when asked about connections between al Qaida and Iraq, said "I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that."
Sept. 16th: Condoleeza Rice, on "Nightline", says the Bush administration had never blamed ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein for the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.
Sept. 17th: Dubya says during a press briefing that "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11th." A few sentences later, he adds: "There's no question that Saddam Hussein had al Qaida ties."
Round and round and round we go...
