The Dallas/Fort Worth Star-Telegram has additional details, including the harassment of a legislator who was visiting his newborn twins at the hospital- in the neo-natal intensive care unit.
A little background on the situation: seems there was a little more to the redistricting bill than just redistricting. It was one of those "shell" bills that are so popular these days, as a way of throwing all sorts of garbage in together with one important thing that needs to be passed. (Note that said redistricting bill was planned out by Rep. Tom DeLay, majority leader of the US House of Representatives. Not a member of the Texas legislature, you notice.)
As usual, Molly Ivins sums it up pretty clearly in her May 13th column.
I always knew they were a little weird down there in Texas, but this really takes the cake. (If only Minnesota Republicans weren't so damned intent on being just like the Texas Republicans. *sigh*)
