Robin Cook's (MP) resignation speech.

"We cannot base our military strategy on the assumption that Saddam is weak and at the same time justify pre-emptive action on the claim that he is a threat."

According to the BBC, "It was the most powerful resignation speech since Sir Geoffrey Howe's famous performance which set the seal on Margaret Thatcher's future.

"If anything, it outdid even that."

I wish for peace.

There Will Absolutely Be No Dissension by Stanley I. Kutler. Reminds us of frightening facts, and quotes former President Theodore Roosevelt (no shrinking violet)- "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong," Roosevelt said, "is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

When Democracy Failed: The Warnings of History by Thom Hartmann. Freaky piece- was reading through it thinking "yeah, that's happening now, but I don't remember hearing of that happening in Germany in the '30's- ohmigod, he's writing about Germany in the '30's.

A Celebrity, but First a Citizen Being famous does not bar an American from speaking out against an unjust war.
by Martin Sheen. Brilliant.

(Yes, I posted about this one earlier, but it bears repeating.)
Why I Had to Leave the Cabinet by Robin Cook (until yesterday, leader of the House of Commons). Includes the excellent observation: "We cannot base our military strategy on the basis that Saddam is weak and at the same time justify pre-emptive action on the claim that he is a serious threat."

According to the BBC, "It was the most powerful resignation speech since Sir Geoffrey Howe's famous performance which set the seal on Margaret Thatcher's future.

"If anything, it outdid even that."

The other day a friend pondered the possibility that if things continue as they are, there may be no 2004 election.

So far, that idea may be a little paranoid; sadly, it's not one that can be dismissed out of hand.

Intellectual-Sexy....
You are the brains behind every operation, and it
shows. The the precision in which you lure the
boys in is unsurpassed. You need someone as
intelligent as you, which seems to be your
greatest problem, as no one is THAT smart.
Maybe you should lighten up and simply enjoy
things, like the rest of us neanderthals.
