"We cannot base our military strategy on the assumption that Saddam is weak and at the same time justify pre-emptive action on the claim that he is a threat."

According to the BBC, "It was the most powerful resignation speech since Sir Geoffrey Howe's famous performance which set the seal on Margaret Thatcher's future.

"If anything, it outdid even that."

So far, that idea may be a little paranoid; sadly, it's not one that can be dismissed out of hand.
