I dare you to place a photo or paint an image of a lightning bolt on the wall above your bed. I double dare you to light a red candle and say a voracious prayer to the fire. I triple dare you to temporarily set aside your obsession with harmony, fairness, and objectivity, and I quadruple dare you with honey and jalapeños on top to give yourself without restraint to a brilliant, blazing adventure that belongs to you and you alone.

Protesters see power of evil in Wicca class
Bonewits put up his fliers and showed up for the first night of his class, held April 17 at the Book Store, a main-street staple in Warwick. But others showed up, too - a handful of Christian protesters, who stood in front of the store making their views on the subject clear to all.

Witnesses said the group did not block the doorway or physically stop anyone from entering. But Bonewits said the display was daunting.

Government-Sponsored National Day of Prayer Undermines Church-State Separation: Taxpayer-Funded Congressional Chaplain Helps Religious Right Group By Drafting Official "Prayer For America"
For AU's [Rev. Barry W.] Lynn, it's troubling that a chaplain, whose salary is financed by taxpayers, would presume to write official prayers for America.

"It's bad enough that the government is telling people when to pray," Lynn said. "It's even worse when a publicly-funded minister is telling us what to pray. For anyone who takes the First Amendment seriously, this fusion of religion and government is indefensible."
...
In addition, the NDP is being positioned as a special day, but only for those who agree with the Religious Right's faith. While NDP Task Force materials on one page say, "The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans," on another page the group says its events, hosted across the country, are exclusively for Christians.

"Prayer for America"Written by Lloyd Ogilvie, Chaplain, United States Senate

I checked the "Application for Volunteer Coordinator Leadership" - first question after name & address: "My Personal Testimony (How to you come to know Jesus as your Savior?)" This is quickly followed by the name and address of your church and how long you've been a member.

Hrm... maybe it's time for a national day of ritual, or an athiest's day. Or even better- a national day of agnosticism.
