Some examples of why I like reading James Lileks. Scroll down to Loring for an interesting look at a lake in downtown Minneapolis.

While describing a postcard from around the turn of the century: "The white floating creatures are birds, and are now dead, but replacement modules arrive yearly."

Also sections about buildings that were lost to "modernizing". As he puts it, to compare pictures from various decades, you'd think there'd been a war and we lost.

Damn, that's two weeks in a row that Chris Carter has managed to bring tears to my eyes. If he'd been writing like this the past few years, I doubt the show would have lost so many viewers.
