1. i know that you and yer kid sister didn't get along so well for a while there growing up. but tell me about something fun and silly you remember from when you guys were young.

(The scary thing about this is that it made me realize there are a lot more blank areas in my memory than I'd thought.)

We used to watch lots of B horror movies, making snarky comments. (This was pre-MST3K.)

When J was maybe 2-3, we often ended up sharing a bath. (That way Mom could get things done, and not have to worry about J drowning or something.) We got some of those bath paint soap things for Christmas, so there were a few bath times that ended up with us painting each other up in blues, reds, and yellows.

I should remember more things like this, shouldn't I...

2. if you had an unlimited travel budget, which three places would you visit first? and of course, why?

1. Russia- St. Petersburg, Kiev, Moscow- the works. That whole long-running passion for Russian history, and a desire to see the places I've read so much about.

2. Egypt. El Amarna, the Valley of the Kings, Abydos, the temple of Hatshepsut- everything. An old fascination rekindled of late, helped along by having someone to talk to about it.

3. Can't decide- Berlin (I'd love to see what it's like now, after having been there before reunification), Brienz (I think I found part of my soul there), London (for all the museums and things that I didn't see when I was there before!), Tuscany (a growing fascination with the mysteries of the Etruscans)... Yes, the multiple answer's a cop out. It would make a great road trip though, wouldn't it? :)

3. how do you (as in you personally) know when you love someone?

I feel like I've come home, found a part of myself that was missing. I stop wondering if what I'm feeling is love, or something else. I just do, it's something in the gut and mind as much as in the heart. I don't quite know how to describe it, to be honest.

4. given the chance, is there anything you'd do differently about college?

I did have a lot of good professors as St. Thomas, and the people I worked with at the library and Scooter's were great. I do believe that I did the right thing, changing my major from journalism to a dual major in English and history. They're not "useful" in the currently accepted sense, but they're better preparation for a wider variety of work- they teach you to think.

I guess I'd still choose to go there.

If I could change anything, though, I'd have started on anti-depressants back when they were first recommended to me during my second year there. I suspect a lot about my life would be different had I done so.

5. what makes your heart sing?

Peter. Kitty curled up on my chest, purring like mad. Digging and researching until I understand something. Seeing the (successful) results of my gardening attempts. A warm, clear, moonlit evening, with the smell of freshly turned earth and a hint of flowers on the breeze, sitting close and talking quietly, listening to the night animals. (And no mosquitoes.)
