Al Qaida has managed to kill more people in another terrorist attack. As most of us know, they're still out there, and they're taking advantage of Shrub focusing on Saddam Hussein instead of the real perpetrators of 9/11.

Shrub is now busy explaining how this proves that we need to "continue" the war on terrorism. Making that political campaign hay on the blood of the innocent. Not enough that he's granting his pals lucrative "reconstruction" contracts with no competition; he's got to parlay those casualties into campaign photo-ops.

I am so disgusted with that self-serving bastard, it's difficult to find the words to express the how and why of it.

I would like to suggest that it can't be through lack of effort, behind the scenes or elsewehere, to stop Al-Qaeda. The Saudis seem only now to be starting to admit to having a home-based terrorist problem, having in the past blamed terrorist attacks on (probably innocent) Westerners. Any charge of negligence in tackling Al-Qaeda within Saudi Arabia, ought, in my view to be placed largely onto the Saudi authorities.

On the part of the US, it does seem ironic, that it has, so to speak, "met" one of the key demands of Al-Qaeda - the withdrawal of US troops from Saudi soil. Yet, that obviously isn't "enough"; or it might well even be irrelevant, as presumably, Al-Qaeda will go on blowing up innocent people until all their demands, no matter how unreasonable, are met, on their terms.

In the UK we spent 30 years fighting terrorism by the IRA. The Al-Qaeda battle has only just begun, I'm afraid.
