What luck!

How cool- was flipping through the channels looking for a nice time reminder show*, and came across "While you were out", one of those "surprise-type" decorating shows. A woman's having the kid's play room turned into an Olde Worlde Library style office for her husband, who's into ancient history.

How perfect! Someday, I want a room like that myself, so I'm getting all sorts of very cool ideas from this. (They're using deck scrubbing brushes to put a cranberry-colored paint on the wall ("It looks like you're trying to clean up a crime scene in here!")- gives it an older, slightly faded look without adding water or anything.) (oops, they changed to rollers because it wasn't working right.)

The idea for hiding storage boxes is very cool, too. Plus they're putting in a fake fireplace. (Personally I'd go for a real one, or putting in a gas fireplace. Of course, it's currently about 0F outside, so extra heating sources sound like an excellent idea about now.) (end note: gorgeous, gorgeous result on the room! Wow!)

My Library will (obviously) be full of bookshelves; preferably lots of dark wood, at least in the shelving, trim, and mantle; have a couple of comfy wingback chairs and an ottoman in front of the fireplace; either a pair of matching desks or a big partner's desk with nice chairs; and maybe a sofa or loveseat for lounging or, er, whatever.

Of course, for now, my "library" consists of bookshelves scattered around the house, a few extra piles and boxes of books, and pretty much none of the other things. *wry grin* Oh well... I am working on coming up with a new arrangement- I NEED a change around here. (Refrain: If I'd known I'd be living here for at least 3+ years, I'd have made arrangements with management and painted a LONG time ago, because all off-white (walls, doors, trim) is SO utterly blah.)

I went wandering through a fabric store the other day to get out of the house for a bit (good me, I didn't spend anything!) and found some *gorgeous* "tapestry" style upholstery remnants, which would have made lovely area rugs or wall hangings. They were still $6.99/yard though, which is a tad steep for my current budget. Darn it...

* When working on things, I often lose track of time, and suddenly realize that it's been several hours and I'm simultaneously starving, cramped, parched, and have to pee something fierce. If I have the TV on, having shows changing every 30-60 minutes helps remind me to get up and move around a little, drink enough, and make necessary side trips.
