Today I am making my first ever attempt at using permanent hair coloring. I've been using semi-perm for 5+ years now, so I'm not too worried. Well, a little. It's strange.

(I apologize now for goofy spellings, I don't have my glasses on while the stuff is in my hair.)

The brand of semi-perm I usually use, in the shades I use, tends to turn a grapey-purple while it's doing it's thing,. I've become accustomed to that, and it doesn't faze me at all anymore. This stuff, though, is scarry. It's turned a sort of pumpkin-orange color.

I know that's not what my hair will look like after this is done, but damn! it looks weird!!

*hums Jeopardy theme*

So. Think I've got most of the Christmas shopping done; working on the crafty bits here and there. Still need to wrap everything, but I'm always afraid to do that too early, for fear of getting confused about what I got for who and what's wrapped. So, that's a task for Monday.

Safe travels to all who are travelling; be careful out there!!

So how'd the hair turn out?

From my own adventures in haircolor land (heh), I wish you all the best.

Well, it came out lighter(!?) and a bit brighter than I'd expected. Forgot that permanent has (not bleaching, but stripping, I guess??) agents to make the color get into the shaft better.

I'm sure some of the brightness will wash away in the next couple days, and at least my hair is almost the same color from root to end- probably for the first time in 4-5 years! (Always ends up darker at the ends, since I'm growing in ashy-bleh nowadays.)

I hope once the red settles the color's okay on me- it's a little bright just now and hard to tell. Next time, a slightly higher brown to red ratio, and a little bit darker...

^_^

That's almost exactly how I felt the first time I colored my hair (and ranted on LJ) -- I've never tried permanent and I'm not sure I'd ever be brave enough to. I felt like I had orange hair (not sure what I was going for since my hair has natural red to it, anyhow) but I was intimidated by what I got. It turned out well, though. . .

I'm sure yours is lovely.

And I'm sure that guy of yours will like it, too.

I've been using semi-perm colors for 5+ years now, and I think I'll probably go back to it. I like those better, because they fade a bit while the hair is growing out, so you don't get a LINE that screams "hair color!" Figured that since I'm a couple months past when I'd normally re-color, I may as well try the permanent version.

Okay, so the permanent version was on sale, bringing it to the same price as my usual stuff, and there was also an offer for a free bottle of the shampoo I usually use, which saved me a few bucks, so I figured what the hey...

Heheh.

And my reasoning was along the lines of "I'm bored, and it DOES wash out. . . right?"

Turns out 'red' is nearly permanent no matter what kind you use. ^_^

Random: Y'know, most of our lj 'conversations' do this back-n-forth thing. It's like mini-IM.
